1 dead, 1 injured after shooting in Northeast Albuquerque

Apr. 25—Two people were shot, one of them fatally, in Northeast Albuquerque on Thursday.

The person died at the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said.

"Homicide detectives are being called to the scene to start an investigation," he said.

Valley Area Command officers responded to reports of two people being shot in the area of 4500 Alexander NE, near Montaño, Gallegos initially said around 6:20 p.m.

Police and first responders are at the scene and are blocking roads and "drivers are urged to avoid the area."
