Watch Courtney Love Spectacularly Cover Radiohead’s ‘Creep’

Super-producer Linda Perry threw a private party at Los Angeles’s 150-capacity No Name club Tuesday night to celebrate “Hands of Love” – Perry’s song from the Julianne Moore/Ellen Page film Freeheld, the Miley Cyrus version of which has been streamed 8 million times of Spotify – and of course that meant she invited a few of her very famous friends.
Among those special surprise guests was Perry’s on/off collaborator Courtney Love, who covered Radiohead’s “Creep” while her occasionally estranged daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, looked on. It was an intense moment, and in many ways, “Creep” seemed like the song Love was truly born to sing. (Video below contains profanity.)
Although Love made a joke onstage that she felt like she was on American Idol, her performance was hardly a glossy production. This was a completely raw and unhinged moment, with the grunge goddess appearing barefoot on the tiny stage, her hair loose and wild, her lace dress riding up her thighs. Frances Bean later tweeted her approval of the performance.

Even on a star-studded night when Christina Aguilera covered John Lennon’s “Mother,” the Cult’s Ian Astbury did David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream” and the Doors’ “Break on Through,” Juliette Lewis sang AC/DC’s “Dirty Deeds,” and Perry herself belted a trio of Led Zeppelin classics, Love’s fiery cover was a standout. (Cyrus was expected to perform, but was unable to make it back to L.A. from Australia in time.)
Along with Frances Bean Cobain, other celebrities in attendance at the Freeheld bash included Tobey Maguire, Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, Jimmy Kimmel, Jodie Foster, Aisha Tyler, Jakob Dylan, Michael Des Barres, and Perry’s wife, Sara Gilbert.
Love’s rendition joins an illustrious list of famous “Creep” covers, including Haley Reinhart & Postmodern Jukebox’s viral version, which has racked up more than 13 million YouTube views, and Prince’s live performance of the ‘90s classic from Coachella 2008, which recently resurfaced online to great fanfare.
