Video Premiere: Matt McAndrew Joins the Fight Club in ‘Counting on Love’

The first rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club. But we need to talk about The Voice Season 7 runner-up Matt McAndrew’s bloody (and bloody good) new video for “Counting on Love,” in which he plays a total Tyler Durden-style badass.

Voice fans who recall Matt’s sweet, sentimental performances of “God Only Knows,” “Fix You,” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” may be surprised not only by the raucously rockin’ sound of “Counting on Love,” but by the sight of a shirtless, bruised-and-bloodied Matt raising his fists and generally raising hell. But it seems he’s still a romantic at heart, as revealed by the video’s twist ending.

“So happy I got my friend Andy Hines to direct this video. Seeing it start as an idea in his backyard to becoming an all-night shoot in the desert was really exciting. I hope people enjoy the finished product,” Matt tells Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks.

Despite all the onscreen violence, Matt was not injured during the making of this fist-flying video. But last month, he had to perform an entire gig in a hospital gown, with his arm propped up, after he dislocated his shoulder in a pre-concert skateboarding accident. Apparently he’s a badass in real life, too.
