“To me, pink is a true neutral in that it really goes with everything,” Johnson says of her rosy capsule collection, which fits neatly into a handmade floral-printed pouch.

Ulla Johnson has been carrying the flag for the “urban bohemian” since debuting her namesake line 21 years ago, long before the term entered the fashion vernacular. Her ethereal floral prints and flowy silhouettes register as both rustic and refined for the Brooklyn-meets-Joshua Tree set—with loose waves and glowing skin to match. “There's an ease to it,” Romy Soleimani says of Johnson's signature look, which the makeup artist has been honing backstage at the designer's shows for the past few seasons.

This month, Johnson is finally packaging her effortless aesthetic into a limited-edition color collection for Bobbi Brown. “I really wanted to answer a woman's needs in a beautiful, pared-down way,” says the mother of three, whose own relentless schedule requires a “low maintenance” approach to cosmetics. Two lip offerings—including a saturated poppy hue that she suggests applying with fingertips for a “soft, blurry” finish—complement a shimmery eye-shadow brick topped with a handmade block print.

Then there's Johnson's “personal passion”: two creamy blush-and-highlighter duos paired with a petite vial of Bobbi Brown's Extra Face Oil. The convenient compact is meant to help women feel “modern and free,” the 44-year-old says—not unlike her woven halter tops and sweeping patchwork maxidresses for spring, which, in a happy coincidence, come replete with palette-size pockets.
