Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher Smashes Heads in First 'Never Go Back' Trailer

Last week, Entertainment Tonight offered a sneak peek at Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, this fall’s follow-up to 2012’s Tom Cruise-headlined hit. Now the first full-length trailer has dropped, and it confirms that Cruise’s former military badass continues to be one of cinema’s foremost experts at assaulting bad guys.

Directed by Edward Zwick — taking over for the original’s writer-director Christopher McQuarrie, who also helmed Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) — Never Go Back will find Reacher coming out of hiding to help Cobie Smulders’ army officer, who’s been set-up by the powers-that-be. That’s bad news for the movie’s villains, who from the looks of things will get to suffer all sorts of cranial blows courtesy of Reacher, in fine form when it comes to both smashing faces and delivering one-liners.

Whether teaching crooked cops to always heed his word or leaping off of tall structures to take out unsuspecting enemies, Cruise, 53, seems set to reassert his standing as our preeminent blockbuster action hero. Smulders told ET that “We’re on the run for this entire movie,” and no doubt that sort of breakneck momentum will be a key to Never Go Back’s pitch to audiences.
