    'The Jungle Book' Crushes 'Mother's Day,' 'Keanu' at the Box Office

    On Friday, the R-rated feline comedy Keanu opened to $3.5 million from 2,658 theaters at the North American box office, enough to beat Garry Marshall’s star-studded Mother’s Day, which grossed an estimated $2.7 million from 3,035 theaters. Neither, of course, were able to beat holdover The Jungle Book, which earned another $10.3 million to jump the $600 million mark globally for Disney and director Jon Favreau. In the tradition of Marshall’s ensemble rom-coms Valentine’s Day (in which Roberts also starred) and New Year’s Eve, Mother’s Day promises to weave together multiple storylines centered around the titular holiday.
