Morgan Freeman Narrates a Pedestrian’s Stroll on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’
Morgan Freeman has a voice fit for godly oration — which is why it was no surprise when, in 2003, he was cast as Our Heavenly Father in Bruce Almighty. When he was last on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this year, the 79-year-old actor put his commanding vocal chords to work in service of a funny bit in which he narrated pedestrians walking by a hidden camera on Hollywood Boulevard. And last night, upon returning to the show to promote Ben-Hur, he replicated that performance, to predictably impressive, amusing effect.
The man in his crosshairs this time around was an average-looking bald fellow walking down the street munching on some food — a perfectly nondescript individual whose everyday actions were given great, resounding import by Freeman’s bass-toned descriptions. Adding weighty pauses and repeated phrases that lent his narration a sense of profound weight, Freeman proved that everything sounds more momentous, more consequential, and more epic when recounted by an Oscar winner.
