Meet the 'She-Wolves of Wall Street' in First Trailer for Sundance Breakout 'Equity' (Exclusive)

Just as Swiss Army Man became “the farting corpse movie,” another buzzy Sundance Film Festival title, the finance thriller Equity, left Utah with its own catchy nickname: “The She-Wolves of Wall Street.” (Watch the trailer above.)

True, women have become more prominent in the banking sector’s power structure over the past several decades, but that’s hardly been represented on movie screens. Films like Wall Street, American Psycho (hey, it’s about a finance guy), The Big Short, and The Wolf of Wall Street have all been very testosterone-fueled stories.

The main character in Equity isn’t any less ambitious or money-minded than the suspender types in those aforementioned movies. Her name is Naomi Bishop, and she’s played by Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad’s Skyler White) in a fierce performance that has drawn major kudos across the festival circuit.

Bishop is a senior investment banker unjustly passed up for a promotion who discovers the type of book-cooking corruption that brought Wall Street to its knees in 2008.

Written by Amy Fox and directed by Meera Menon, the film also stars James Purefoy, Sarah Megan Thomas, and Alysia Reiner.

Equity opens July 29.
