Ah date night. The saviour of many a frazzled couple. And proving they’re just like any other busy parents, Kate and Will skipped a posh night at the opera in favour of a low-key night at their local complete with a glass of house white and a packet of pork scratchings.

OK we made up the bit about the pork scratchings, but a regular did report that the royal duo looked much like any other young couple enjoying some time out from family life.

Leaving children George, two and nine-month-old baby Charlotte at home, the pair reportedly headed to The Crown in East Rudham, about 15 minutes from their home in Anmer Hall, Norfolk to enjoy a meal and some down-time.

Ditching her usual formal chic, Kate opted to dress down in skinny jeans and a navy jumper. William also kept it casual as he made the most of being off-shift for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and enjoyed a glass of wine, while Kate stuck to the sparkling water.

Onlookers told The Sun that Prince William, 33, and the Duchess of Cambridge, 34, kept a low profile as they had a drink at the bar before moving onto a table for dinner.

“They were very low key and it seemed quite a last minute thing,” the regular reported. “They both looked a little tired but seemed to have a lovely time and left at about 10.30pm.”

The regular continued: “They were leaning into one another chatting away, laughing and joking. It’s nice for them to have a normal night out like any other parents of young children.”

And after a busy start to the year with Prince George starting school and Kate making her first official appearance at the 75th Anniversary of the RAF Air Cadets, the couple were no doubt making the most of some rare quality time together.

The Duke and Duchess also have a busy few months ahead as they are set to embark on a tour of India together and later in the year will be at the forefront of a series of celebrations in honour of the Queen’s 90th birthday.
