New 'Peanuts Movie' Trailer: Charlie Brown Woos the Mysterious Little Red-Haired Girl

Charlie Brown is just as adorable (and hapless) as ever in the new trailer for The Peanuts Movie. The 3D-animated film, in theaters Nov. 6, reunites the lovable cast of kids and creatures from Charles Schulz’s classic comic strip. While the previous trailer showcased the antics of dancing beagle Snoopy and his feathered friend Woodstock, this one puts the spotlight back on perennial underdog Charlie Brown. With a new kid moving in next door — the unseen “little red-haired girl” of the comics — Charlie is determined to “change who I am and become a winner.” To that end, he’ll need a little help from his friends, including loyal dog Snoopy, little sister Sally, frenemy (and five-cent psychiatrist) Lucy, piano prodigy Schroeder, blanket-toting Linus, sports-loving Peppermint Patty, and shy Marcie. Even Pigpen makes an appearance, surrounded as always by a cloud of his own dirt.

Ever since the Peanuts Movie was announced in 2012, fans have expressed concern that the spirit of Schulz’s creation will be lost in high-tech animation and a modernized story. This new trailer should help appease those worries. The classic characters are instantly recognizable, thanks to a clever art style that combines 3D and traditional animation techniques. And rather than getting a modern makeover, the story seems to be firmly grounded in Schultz’s timeless universe. True to producer Paul Feig’s word, it’s nothing like Space Jam. “That was the Schulz family’s fear, that me and Fox everybody were gonna come in and hip it up and cast Justin Bieber as Charlie Brown,” Feig said in March to Collider. “All of us were like, ‘No.’”
