Snoopy Goes 3D in the Very Merry First Trailer for 'The Peanuts Movie'

Snoopy and friends have officially entered the 21st century.

The iconic beagle, his buddy Woodstock, Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang will be computer animated for the first time in the Peanuts Movie, a Paul Feig-produced romp due out in 2015.

Though the animation is all new, loyal fans of the Charles Schultz’s beloved cartoon needn’t worry about its faithfulness to the original source material: Schultz’s son, Craig, and grandson Bryan, are two of the writers on the film.

Together they crafted a story, according to USA Today, that “follows the little round-headed boy with the indomitable optimism on a quest to get something he’s sure he needs, even though he discovers he’s pretty OK just as he is.”

Snoopy, meanwhile, goes on plenty of his own adventures, like doing battle in a fighter plane (or, well, his dog house) against his longtime imaginary foe, the Red Baron.

Reaction to the CG characters will likely be mixed: Kids immersed in the current state of animation should have no problem embracing the new Peanuts, but that generation who grew up with the newspaper comic strip and annual TV specials might find something disconcerting about the lush colors and 3D rendering.

Get ready to head back into the world of The Peanuts on November 6, 2015.
