'SPECTRE' Teaser Unleashed: James Bond Embarks on a Moody Mystery

A singed photo. A mysterious file. A silver ring with a familiar insignia.

The SPECTRE teaser trailer arrived Friday and finds our hero on a quest arising from the ashes of his torched family estate, Skyfall.

“You’ve got a secret,” Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) tells 007 (Daniel Craig) at the outset of the 1-minute, 36-second clip. “Something you can’t tell anyone, because you don’t trust anyone.”

She hands him a file of personal effects recovered from the fire, which sets the plot in motion. Bond travels to a remote cabin, tangles with some crows, and eventually finds himself in the company of a haggard acquaintance (Jesper Christensen). The man recoils at the sight of the octopus-embossed ring and the danger it represents.

“You’re a kite dancing in a hurricane, Mr. Bond,” the gent tells 007.

In the final moments Bond comes face to face with a shadowy figure who appears to be leading a sinister cabal, played with typical chilling glee by Christoph Waltz.

“Welcome, James. It’s been a long time. And finally, here we are.”

Here we are, indeed.

After the critical and commercial success of 2012’s Skyfall, expectations are sky-high for SPECTRE. Named after the nefarious criminal organization from Bond films of yore, SPECTRE has been hinting at a throwback feel for this mission with retro turtlenecks and glamorous photo calls from the Austrian Alps, Rome, and Mexico City.

Craig is joined by returning co-stars Harris, Ralph Fiennes as M, and Ben Whishaw as Q. Among the newbies to the franchise: two-time Oscar winner Waltz as Bond’s presumable adversary, Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista as the henchman Mr. Hinx, and an array of lovely Bond ladies, including Léa Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, and Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman.

The movie, the 24th entry in the official Bond canon, hits theaters on Nov. 6.
