The Mariners are in first place with just under three weeks until the calendar flips to June, and yet, they've largely underachieved thus far. It's a combination that could indicate the best is yet to come for the Mariners, but for that to happen, they'll have to get the bats going. While Mariners' starting pitchers have been stellar, the bats have been inconsistent at best. The Mariners have won seven of their last eight series and open up a three-game series Monday at home against the Royals (25-17), who are possibly the biggest surprise contender in baseball.
All five of these hitters were drafted highly in fantasy baseball leagues. So far, they have not lived up to their ADPs — and that's an understatement. Scott Pianowski analyzes.
The Seattle Mariners beat the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon, 8-4, to move to 22-19 on the season. With the win, Seattle took the series and took sole possession of first place of the American League West, as they are 0.5 games ahead of the Texas Rangers. The win was absolutely huge for the Mariners, as all wins are, but perhaps just as huge was the fact that Mariners star Julio Rodriguez finally looked right at the plate. The two-time All-Star and centerpiece of the M's lineup went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI.
