DJ Stewart is hardly a prototypical leadoff hitter, but an unorthodox look certainly didn't hurt the Mets on Sunday. With Brandon Nimmo on the bench — at least at the start — after leaving the previous game with an intercostal irritation, manager Carlos Mendoza went with the slugger Stewart at leadoff for the series finale against the Braves. Stewart reached base three times (two singles and a walk) in four plate appearances before Nimmo replaced him as a pinch runner in the seventh inning. DJ Stewart hits a single during the Mets' win over the Braves on May 12, 2024. Robert Sabo for NY Post Nimmo's walkoff two-run homer in the ninth against A.J. Minter allowed the Mets to escape with a 4-3 victory
