Patrick Wisdom is thriving in new role on Chicago Cubs bench

Patrick Wisdom belted an insurance home run for the Chicago Cubs during their 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday in extra innings. Part of the reason why Wisdom is finding success this season is because of how selective Craig Counsell has been in deploying the slugger. On the season, as a whole, Wisdom is slashing .321/.441/.679 with a 212 wRC+ in 34 plate appearances. Wisdom is thriving against left-handed pitching this season as he is slashing .462/.588/.923 with a 307 wRC+ in 17 plate appearances.

Wisdom homers in the 10th, lifting Cubs to 5-4 win over Pittsburgh Pirates

Cody Bellinger hit a go-ahead single before Patrick Wisdom added insurance with a home run in the 10th inning, lifting the Chicago Cubs to a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday for a series victory. Bellinger led off by dribbling a ball through the left side of the infield off Aroldis Chapman (0-3), scoring automatic runner Seiya Suzuki before getting caught in a rundown between first and second. Chapman left with a cracked nail on his throwing hand after going down 3-0 to Nick Madrigal with two outs and runners on first and second.

Cubs hit three home runs and stifle late Brewers rally in series-tying 6-5 win

Nico Hoerner hit his first career lead-off home run, Christopher Morel hit his third homer in as many games and Patrick Wisdom sent one into the stands as the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 on Saturday. “Our offense has been a little quiet lately obviously,” said Cubs manager Craig Counsell. Chicago tied its first divisional series of the year at one apiece in Counsell's first series against his former team.
