In the same inning Orioles manager Brandon Hyde marveled at Jorge Mateo and Gunnar Henderson racing around the bases for consecutive triples, each in 11.3 seconds, he winced at Austin Hays. Hays came off the injured list Monday after being shut down for a week and a half and then playing five games in Double-A Bowie rehabbing a calf strain. A groundout by Anthony Santander pushed him to third.
Another Oriole prospect will get his chance to make his mark with the big-league club as outfielder Heston Kjerstad has been called up to the majors.Kjerstad was recalled due to Austin Hays' calf injury, which landed Hays on the 10-day injured list. Kjerstad will fill in as the backup outfielder and potential designated hitter, and he has some experience at first base as well.
