The first-place Cleveland Guardians have lost three in a row for the first time this season, losing all three to the last-place team in their division. The White Sox beat the Guardians 3-1 Saturday night, their third straight win to open the four-game series. Chicago goes for the sweep Sunday afternoon, as Cleveland's lead in the AL Central is down to a half game. Nicky Lopez, Martin Maldonado and Andrew Benintendi drove in runs and three pitchers combined on 4 1/3 innings of hitless relief as the White Sox won their fourth straight game.
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Triston McKenzie pitched a good game for the Guardians, starting on his second pitch of the game. The first one did not work out so well. “I thought it was a good pitch, I think he just put a good swing on it,” McKenzie said of the ball Riley Greene drove out of the ballpark for a 1-0 lead. After that, McKenzie was not scored on. The Tiger lead did not last. In the bottom of the first Will Brennan came through with a RBI single to score Estevan Florial, who was batting lead off in place of the injured Steven Kwan. McKenzie went five innings allowing only the one run on three hits and three walks, he struck out six Tigers. He did not factor into the decision though because
José Ramírez hit a solo homer in the sixth inning, breaking Hall of Famer Larry Doby’s franchise record with his 87th career go-ahead blast and lifting the Cleveland Guardians to a 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Monday night.
