Cubs' Dansby Swanson is back in the lineup. Is he ready to start earning that superstar money again?

Dansby Swanson didn't hesitate to put it out there after showing up for his first spring training in Mesa, Arizona, in 2022. One, he wanted the Cubs — who'd signed the shortstop in free agency for $177 million over seven years — to be his team. If any player was going to embody the standards for all the Cubs in the big leagues as well as the prospects moving up the organizational ranks, it was going to be him. Over his last three seasons in Atlanta, from 2020 through 2022, Swanson had played in every single Braves game except for one, going 381 for 382 at answering the bell.

Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner return to Cubs lineup vs. Braves, team calls up Luis Vázquez for support

Cubs infielder Luis Vázquez was new to the Wrigley Field clubhouse when he settled into his locker before the team's game against the Braves on Tuesday. When the interview wrapped up, he walked over to catch up with starting pitcher Javier Assad and catcher Miguel Amaya. “For us, it means a lot to see him here, to bring his talent and support to the team,” Amaya, who overlapped with Vázquez in the minors, told the Sun-Times. Vázquez, who has been in the organization since the Cubs drafted him out of high school in Puerto Rico in 2017, could make his major-league debut this week.
