DIY this Paper Picnic Basket for Delicious Adventures in the Great Outdoors

If there is one thing we just can’t wait for, it’s the change in the weather that allows for picnics! It might be one of the best ways to spend time with family and friends.

A picnic is a happy event - after all, who could be in a bad mood when allowed to eat snacks while laying on a blanket in the sun?

Since picnics are simply the best, we thought you needed a picnic craft - namely woven paper picnic baskets! You can make them small, medium or large - pretty much whatever size you want, and the technique is exactly the same for each.

In the pictures below we are making a picnic basket from an A4-sized piece of card stock - also perfect for favors for your outdoor wedding.

Tools:

  • Scissor

  • Hot glue gun

Materials:

  • Brown card stock

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut 12 strips from the long side of the card stock.

Step 2:  With 4 strips vertically and 4 strips horizontally, weave the strips together.

Instead of weaving all eight at one time, it is much easier if you lay one down at a time.Make sure the ends of the strips are the same length, so that the weaving is in the middle. When you are done, glue the strips together at each corner. this will make sure the strips stay in place when you begin weaving the sides.

Step 3: Fold all the ends of the strips upwards - they will become the sides of your basket.

Step 4: Starting at one side of the square, add a new strip. Add glue so it stays in place and weave it in.

When you reach the corner of the square, fold the new strip so it creates a corner and continue weaving. Glue the strips together each time you round a corner, so the strips stay in place. Do this until you have woven all four sides. Fold the last bit of strip and glue to the inside of the basket.

Add two more strips the same way.

Step 5: Cut off the excess ends. If the strips aren’t lying close to sides, simply add a little bit of glue

Step 6:
Gut the last strip in half. On one of the halves, add glue to both ends and glue it to the top of the basket so it creates a handle.

And you are done!.
