Halloween is a month away, but Pinterest has already revealed two big costume trends you’ll see on Oct. 31.
There are already 5 million costume pins this year on the social network, and Pinterest tells Yahoo Makers that DIY costumes are more popular than ever before.
Millennials are not only choosing to make their own costumes, they prefer to coordinate their getups with groups of friends. The National Retail Federation reports that this year 8 out of 10 millennials are planning a costume that matches their buddies’, so it comes as no surprise that group costume ideas are one of the top trends on Pinterest.
The second leading DIY trend on Pinterest this Halloween is throwback costumes. Pinterest says ’90s costume ideas are five times more popular than they were at this time last year. Why the sudden increase? The ’90s are trending all across Pinterest. But given how pop culture often influences Halloween costume trends, perhaps the boom in ’90s entertainment reboots has something to do with it. Or maybe everyone just wants more #TBT content for Instagram.
