Let’s not forget that this is the one time of year you can get away with terrifying those you love most. It’s a time-honored tradition, after all. People have been playing pranks on or near Halloween since the 18th century. Describing Halloween in 1780, Scottish poet John Mayne wrote, “What fearfu’ pranks ensue!”
