Zosia Mamet's Gray Hair Wasn't Her Initial Idea

Lena Dunham isn’t the only Girls girl who can pull off daring hair color, as Zosia Mamet proved at last night’s New York premiere of A Most Violent Year. The actress hit the red carpet with a new gray hair color, giving her a silver-fox look that you don’t see every day—not on 26-year-olds, at least.

Chalk the “antique gray” shade up to boredom. “It was just for fun,” she told Cosmopolitan. ”I wanted to go all the colors I’d always envied on women on the subway. You know? Like, I would look at these girls, and be, like, ‘Oh my god, she has violet hair! It’s so cool!’ And I was just, like, ‘I’m going to do it. I’m going to be that girl!’”

Apparently, Mamet actually wanted to go from her previous platinum to violet, as she tells Us Weekly, but her colorist said the idea was “too childish.” And this silvery shade, with its salt-and-pepper streaks, is anything but girlish. Tell us: Do you like Mamet’s new hue?
