Zooey Deschanel Shows Her ‘Crafty’ Christmas Elves in a Cute New Video with Her Kids

If an Elf on the Shelf comes to your house, then you know they can get into some mischievous fun. Zooey Deschanel has two scout elves that visit her kids Elsie Otter, 8, and Charlie Wolf, 6 — and their latest shenanigans show how “crafty” they are.

The New Girl alum shared an adorable video on her Instagram story of two elves hanging to an air vent in her home. One is connected to a ceiling vent with a purple pipe cleaner, with another elf dangling from their foot with an orange pipe cleaner. The bottom one even has a green clothes pin hanging on their foot. (PEOPLE has screenshots of the video HERE.)

Deschanel wrote, “but is it an escape or a break in?” Hard to say with these elves!

In the video of the elves, you can hear Deschanel talking to her kids. “I can’t take a picture of them?” Deschanel asks.

“Well you can…You might not see it. They might disappear in the pictures,” a kid responds in the background.

“Oh,” she responds. “I hope not.”

“What if I have magic video?” she adds. “They are crafty.” It looks like she did have a magic video because we can see the elves clear as Christmas!

It seems like Elsie and Charlie love their little elf friends, but there’s another elf they don’t like — Buddy the Elf from Elf, which Deschanel stars in opposite Will Ferrell.

In a Nov. 2022 interview, the Trolls Band Together actress revealed that her kids find Elf “scary.” “I think they’re a little young for it,” Deschanel told Access Daily. “They still usually only watch animated movies. But it was a little scary for them.”

“It sounds weird because it’s not a scary movie,” she laughed. “But it was a little bit scary for them … the suspense of [Santa’s] sleigh going down.”

Aww! These kids have so much Christmas spirit, they can’t handle even a small amount of suspense, and honestly, I don’t blame them! Scary has no place in the holiday season.

Deschanel shares Elsie and Charlie with ex Jacob Pechenik. She is currently engaged to Property Brothers co-host Jonathan Scott, who joined her and the kids for an awesome winter break. In a “Christmas photo dump” she shared last year, the naughty elves were caught in the panty snacking on granola bars and bunny snacks.
