Zoe Saldana on Being a Feminist and Working Mom in Hollywood

Zoe Saldana is more than a kickass action mega babe. The star of The Guardians of The Galaxy: Volume 2 doesn’t take any prisoners whether on or off screen, especially when it comes to talking about the plight of women working in Hollywood today.

On being a feminist in Hollywood...

'It means to be outspoken, to speak with conviction, to speak with love but also to speak with truth about what your experiences are. Not in a way to batter men’s reputation but to encourage establishments that are mainly male-oriented, or benefit males, to sort of step back and acknowledge the presence that females have been having, and the recognition and the compensation that we need having already moved forward.'

On working for the Hollywood sisterhood...

'There’s a great deal of insecurities that women have about ageing, about working with other women, working with younger women, working with older women, that I think if we work a little more on ourselves we’ll be able to just work better with each other. I think that as women we’re becoming a much stronger sisterhood in the workforce because we’re realising that men have been nothing but an inspiration for us and they should be because the brotherhood that men have, and the kind of camaraderie that they have, and the way they collaborate and support each other, should only be seen as something that we can duplicate ourselves.

On being a working mother...

'As mums it’s all about checking that list ... did they eat? Did they sleep? Did they poop?’ It’s almost like ... play with your kids! And if they spill that green juice on your white dress, sometimes it’s good to just laugh with them and sort of brush things off. You don’t want your kids to sort of go, oh here comes mom!’ I don’t want my kids to do that but I do acknowledge that when I’m away they tend to laugh louder with my husband and it makes me a little jealous.'

On bringing her twin two-year-olds to set...

'They are getting older so I can reason with them and they can sit and stay and then they get a treat then I’ll be able to bring them. And they think I’m related to The Hulk because they love The Hulk. So I’m using it for so many things...'

On combating against Chris Pratt...

'I would have the power of being super-duper funnier than him. I would out humour him!'

On using a superpower against Angelina... #GirlCrush

'I would have the power to make her fall in love with me!'

On defeating Donald Trump...

'I don’t wanna say anything terrible. No, because I don’t think that’s constructive. I think I would just give him a bigger heart.'

Guardians of The Galaxy: Volume Two is released on 5th May.
