How each zodiac sign deals with hardship, according to an astrologer

How we choose to face difficulties is something we all approach differently. While coping mechanisms, relaxation techniques, grounding methods, boundary-setting, and positive self-talk are all great places to start when finding the fortitude to weather challenging circumstances, there’s no one-size-fits-all method for making it through hardship. Within our current climate of anxiety surrounding the continued spread of coronavirus (and the necessary social isolation we are currently experiencing(, many of us are finding ourselves battling circumstances we never could have previously imagined. And while it’s completely okay to not be okay right now, sometimes a solid reminder that we will get through this is exactly what we need to find the strength that already exists within us and to make it to the other side.

Luckily, if you feel like you don’t have much left to give—which, trust us, is a very common feeling—astrology might offer you a reprieve. We talked to astrologer Lisa Stardust about how each zodiac sign faces hardships to get ideas on how to cope in the current environment. Whether you relate entirely to your sun sign or are new to astrology and a bit skeptical, sometimes there’s comfort to be found in the stars. Check out some suggestions below.

Aries (March 21—April 19)

As the ram of the zodiac, you have a tendency to face your problems head-on. While you don’t have to meet every challenge tactically, without anxiety or emotion, you’re very good at persevering. “You take on your fears and don’t let your worries stand in your way,” Stardust says.

Taurus (April 20—May 20)

When it comes to difficult situations, you like to take a methodical approach, Taurus. “You proceed with caution and stock up on comfort food to help soothe your worries,” Stardust says. Finding solace in the small things is a great way for you to get past difficulties—whether it’s your favorite cookies, a nice bottle of wine, or a warm blanket.

Gemini (May 21—June 20)

Gemini, you have the gift of gab, and you don’t hesitate to use it when it comes to tough times. “[You’re] always the one to find humor in a situation and make a tasteful joke to soothe the overall energy,” Stardust says. So share those funny memes with friends, and pass along any jokes—they’ll appreciate it just as much as you do.

Cancer (June 21—July 22)

Cancer, do not worry if you’re not ready to take on challenges at this very moment. “Roll up in your personal cocoon and take on the world when you feel better, which you [can] do at your own pace,” Stardust says. There’s no shame in that. Take a second for you and heal yourself first. Then, when you feel up to it, take on the challenge at hand.

Leo (July 23—Aug. 22)

Leo, you may get upset for a hot second, but then you’re typically right back up fighting the good fight. “You push back hard,” Stardust says. “You don’t let yourself get down. You strike back at the situation.” Remember, you don’t have to have a plan right away, but when you do, act swiftly in the way you feel most confident about.

Virgo (Aug. 23—Sept. 22)

When it comes to stressful situations, you’re one to think things through, Virgo. “You meditate and ruminate before discussing the situation to find the right words and ways to heal,” Stardust says. If it helps, make lists of pros and cons, weigh your feelings, and go from there.

Libra (Sept. 23—Oct. 22)

Ever the romantic, you often feel better when you’re with your significant other. “You find comfort in the arms of your boo or crush, who’ll help problem-solve with you,” Stardust says. And even if you can’t be with your partner physically right now, a daily video call to check in can be a big help.

For those Libras without partners, Stardust says you can find strength in “having boundaries” and not internalizing tense emotions. It’s a tough time, but you have it in you to not let it get to you.

Scorpio (Oct. 23—Nov. 21)

Scorpio, you’re a deep being with a lot of complex feelings, and it can be tempting to present strength and resilience to the world. You don’t let fear dictate you, Stardust says, “which is why you don’t submit to your fears or obstacles.” If you truly feel in charge, that’s great—step into your power and embrace the confidence. But also remember that it’s okay to have a dark day every once in a while when things don’t pan out the way you want them to.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22—Dec. 21)

If there’s one thing we can count on from you, Sag, it’s that you’ll say how you feel. “You clap back,” Stardust says. “You don’t let anything stand in the way of expressing your sentiments.” Speak your truth and let those around you know what you’re going through. There’s nothing wrong with asking for help.

Capricorn (Dec. 22—Jan. 19)

You might find comfort from banding together with others and figuring out ways to solve issues at large, Cap. “You become a social justice warrior and create social media posts to declare your sentiments,” Stardust says. While the current time can feel very isolating, it’s a good idea to reach out to those you’re close with and talk about how you can move through the issues at hand together.

Aquarius (Jan. 20—Feb. 18)

It’s natural for you to snap into altruism mode and think of others when something goes wrong, Aquarius. “You take action by signing a petition to help mend the problem at hand,” Stardust says. Be sure to take care of yourself, too, though. It can be tempting to fix the world, but always check in with yourself.

Pisces (Feb. 19—March 20)

Ever the empath, Pisces, you handle difficulties by lending others an ear. “You may have temporary anxiety but, when you calm down, you are committed to listening and talking to others in an effort to heal the collective,” Stardust says. In those moments of temporary worry, do what you can to help yourself feel better. If that’s talking things out, a close friend or a therapist are both good places to start.

Challenges are sure to come up in life, and how you encounter them depends on the circumstances you are given. But if you’re wondering how to take on something new, connecting within yourself can offer the guidance you’re looking for.
