Zoë Kravitz Is Officially Catwoman in New Batman Film Alongside Robert Pattinson

In a previous Batman film, she was reportedly denied an audition for being too "urban."

Gotham City has just earned another new resident. Zoë Kravitz has been cast as Catwoman in the upcoming Batman film, which will star Robert Pattinson in the title role.

According to Variety, the Big Little Lies star was being considered for the role along with Zazie Beetz and Eiza González. As pointed out by Twitter, news of Zoë's casting comes after the star was reportedly denied an unidentified role in Christopher Nolan's Batman for being "too urban." Zoë told Nylon of the casting incident in a 2015 interview, saying, "In the last Batman movie [The Dark Knight Rises], they told me that I couldn’t get an audition for a small role they were casting because they weren’t 'going urban.'"

There's no word on when filming might begin, but the movie is slated for a June 25, 2021 release, Variety noted. Robert's casting was previously announced in June, and following the news, the Twilight star revealed that he was concerned after news of his heroic role had been leaked online. "Everyone was so upset," he said. "Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing.”

Other roles haven't yet been cast, but the internet has shared hope that Rihanna or Zendaya could potentially take on the role of Poison Ivy. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled for more casting news, but in the meantime, we'll join social media in celebrating Zoë's arrival.

The news has been met with support from Batman fans and newbies, with one Twitter user summing up all of the feelings with their statement, "Zoë kravitz as catwoman i’m suddenly very interested in this batman film."
