Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum are one of those couples you never saw coming but work so well together.

In 2021, Kravitz and Tatum teamed up for her directorial debut, Blink Twice (previously titled Pussy Island), which Kravitz also cowrote. Per Variety, the film follows the story of Frida (Naomi Ackie), “a young, clever Los Angeles cocktail waitress who has her eyes set on the prize: philanthropist and tech mogul Slater King (Tatum). When she skillfully maneuvers her way into King’s inner circle and ultimately an intimate gathering on his private island, she is ready for a journey of a lifetime. Despite the epic setting, beautiful people, ever-flowing Champagne, and late-night dance parties, Frida can sense that there’s more to this island than meets the eye. Something she can’t quite put her finger on. Something terrifying.”

Let's just say that a lot has changed since rumors first began circulating three years ago. Here's a complete timeline of Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum's relationship, starting with the most recent updates, including bike rides in New York City and their engagement.

January 26, 2024: Kravitz announces the August release date of Blink Twice by sharing a cute Polaroid with Tatum on Instagram.

Over on his own feed, Tatum shares his own content from set while gushing over his fiancée in the caption. “MISS DIRECTOR LADY HERSELF IN ACTION,” he writes on Instagram. “ABSOLUTELY CRUSHING IT. CAN’T WAIT FOR YALL TO SEE.”

January 4, 2024: Lenny Kravitz nods his head when asked about his daughter's engagement at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. “When your family is happy, when your child is happy, that's it—I've done well,” he tells Entertainment Tonight of his reaction to the news. “Blessed.”

October 31, 2023: People reports that Kravitz and Tatum are engaged.

October 28, 2023: Kravitz appears to sport an engagement ring during a Halloween outing with Tatum.

November 15, 2022: Kravitz opens up about those famous bike pics during a cover interview with GQ. Apparently, the summer heat was getting to her on their walk over to her writing partner's house, so Tatum offered to give her a lift. “I was sweating and he was like, ‘Get on the bike, I’ll ride you over and you can relax,’” she says, adding that she noticed a paparazzo right away.

“You want to keep it sacred and private as long as you can,” she says. “So that you don’t have to even think about what the world thinks about it.”

During the interview, she also reveals that Tatum—who she refers to as “Chan”—gave her a large emerald pinkie ring. “He’s just a wonderful human," she said. “He makes me laugh and we both really love art and talking about art and the exploration of why we do what we do. We love to watch a film and break it down and talk about it and challenge each other.”

She also says he was her “protector” while they were working together on Blink Twice. “Whether it was making me tea or pouring me a drink or going to whip someone into shape or whatever—he really was my protector and it was really wonderful and sweet," she recalled. "I think if you can do something like that together, it’s a good test. And we came out even stronger.”

August 16, 2022: Kravitz reveals what drew her to Tatum before they met. “I felt, even from afar, before I knew him, that he was a feminist and that he wasn’t afraid of exploring that darkness, because he knows he’s not that,” she tells The Wall Street Journal. “That’s why I was drawn to him and wanted to meet with him. And I was right.”

March 10, 2022: Sources tell Page Six that the couple are planning their future together. “Things are going great with Channing and she is incredibly happy,” says the source. “She is in a good place careerwise and he has a good record of being a dad.” The source also suggests that the Pussy Island director “wouldn’t mind having one kid” but isn’t looking to rush into anything. However, it is definitely worth taking that report with a grain of salt based on Kravitz’s previous statements.

“A lot of people ask the question, ‘When are you gonna have a baby?’ or say things like, ‘When’s the baby?’ and I really get offended by people assuming that’s something that I have to do because society says so,” Kravitz told Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert back in 2020. “Right now I’m certainly not in a place where I think I’m able to do that just ’cause of work and also just, man, I don’t know, I like my free time.”

February 28, 2022: Kravitz’s stepdad, Jason Momoa, and Tatum travel to the Batman premiere together. “CHEEEEHUUUUUUUU. SO EXCITED @channingtatum and I are on our way to see our ZOZO,” Momoa shared on Instagram on February 28. “Finally @thebatman premiere. September 13, 2021: The supposed couple arrive separately at the 2021 Met Gala but attend Alicia Keys's after-party together. They “did not take their hands off of each other,” an insider tells People.

August 28, 2021: Tatum and Kravitz are photographed having lunch in NYC on August 28. According to Elle, Tatum subtly acknowledged all the rumors by following four Zoë Kravitz fan accounts. This could be a quiet relationship confirmation, or he could just be interested in keeping track all the commotion.

August 27, 2023: According to a source who spoke with Entertainment Tonight, the relationship is no longer a rumor. “Zoë and Channing are dating,” the source says on August 27. “It started out as a friendship and eventually turned to be more. The duo was recently spotted at a restaurant in New York City being very affectionate.”

According to another source, Tatum’s ex-wife Jenna Dewan reportedly approves of the pairing. Tatum and Dewan were married from 2009 to 2019 and share an eight-year-old daughter, Everly Elizabeth Maiselle Tatum. “Jenna doesn’t get involved in who he dates,” the source tells E! News. “She wants the best for Channing and hopes that he is healthy and happy. She leaves it at that.”

August 18, 2021: the two are spotted “strolling” in NYC's East Village before Tatum hops onto one of those low BMX bikes and Kravitz stands behind him on the back wheel’s pegs. Check out the pictures and details on Page Six.

June 15, 2021: Kravitz and Tatum practically gush about each other during a Deadline interview about their film. “Chan was my first choice, the one I thought of when I wrote this character,” Kravitz says of casting the tech billionaire. “I just knew from Magic Mike and his live shows. I got the sense he’s a true feminist and I wanted to collaborate with someone who was clearly interested in exploring this subject matter.”

Tatum has equally lovely things to say about Kravitz: “When Zoë called me about this, I was shocked. I didn’t know her. I’d watched her in movies, knew she produced High Fidelity and had seen that, but I didn’t know she was creating on a level like this, where she wanted to direct. This came out of nowhere, and the subject matter made me say, Wait, why are you thinking about me for this? No one gives me a chance to play a role like this, everybody throws me down a different alley and expects me to do a certain thing. It was scary and liberating, just to be able to have a free conversation, where I was allowed to mess up and say the wrong things.”
