'Zero Wing' Hits Steam Disappointedly Without "All Your Base Are Belong to Us" Meme

Spawning one of the earliest memes on the Internet, Toaplan’s Zero Wing 1989 side-scrolling shooter arcade video game is now available on Steam. For those unaware, the game has become notorious for its bad translations, most notably the "All your base are belong to us" phrase that appears during the opening cutscene in the European release of the 1991 Sega Mega Drive port.

Despite the game's store page referencing the "All your base are belong to us" meme, fans were disappointed to find that the moment is missing from the re-release of the game. It turns out that the arcade version of Zero Wing from 1989 has been ported for modern PCs by Bitwave Games and not the Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) port that features the poor translation and iconic phrase.

But following an outpour of criticism in response to the release of the re-release, a developer at Bitwave Games suggested that the "All Your Base Are Belong to Us" cutscene could be incorporated in some way in the future.

Head over to Steam to check out Bitwave Games' re-release of Toaplan's Zero Wing.
