On a night that was all about Oprah Winfrey’s interview with the Sussexes (the gasps could be heard all around the world; truly must-watch television), Zendaya stole some of the attention when she attended the 2021 Critics' Choice Awards in not one, but two take-my-breath-away dresses by Valentino, accessorized with Bulgari jewelry. She is, after all, a brand ambassador for both luxury labels, so no surprises there.

Zendaya was nominated for best actress for her tour-de-force performance in Malcolm & Marie, being bested by Carey Mulligan for Promising Young Woman. But she didn’t go away empty-handed. The 24-year-old was given the SeeHer Award, an honor that recognizes the way she has defied stereotypes with her roles, pushing boundaries in the entertainment industry and beyond.

Broadcast live from a hotel room, Zendaya accepted the trophy in a black gown with sequin embellishments from Valentino’s pre-fall 2021 collection. Sleek and effortless, the look didn’t distract from her beaming smile and all-around glow. The number she wore to the virtual red carpet, however, commanded the utmost attention, enveloping the room. Wearing an ivory silk crêpe top and fluorescent-orange scuba, silk, organza, and taffeta ball skirt from the Italian label’s haute couture line, she twirled and posed for pics like the star she is. Not to be outdone were her baubles by Bulgari: pink gold drop earrings with pavé diamonds and amethyst, rubellite, and garnet beads; and four pink gold and diamond rings.

Both looks were orchestrated by her virtual fairy godfather, stylist Law Roach. His Instagram video post of Zendaya in the orange skirt pretty much sums up how we all felt seeing the star on Meghan Markle night: “And then this happened.”
