Zendaya to Receive Launch of the Year Award for Her Shoe Line

Landing a role in Marvel’s upcoming “Spider-Man” film, starring in and co-producing Disney Channel’s “K.C. Undercover” and working on a new album are just a few of Zendaya’s accomplishments that make her a rising star in entertainment.

The actress-singer has also making her mark on the footwear industry ever since she launched her namesake label, Daya by Zendaya, which is why she’s set to receive the Launch of the Year honor at the 2016 Footwear News Achievement Awards.

Said Zendaya, “This year has been a big year and I am honored as a 20-year-old to be next to such powerful people in this creative space that I look up to so much.”

Her brand, which is produced by Titan Industries, launched for spring ’16 under the name Sole of Daya. With a revamp for fall ’16, which included lowering price points and a name change, Daya by Zendaya has made a splash on the retail front. And to go with shoes, she launched a coinciding clothing line this month under the same name along with her own direct-to-consumer e-commerce site.

“Since I’m learning more about the making of shoes, I’m becoming more sure of myself,” Zendaya told Footwear News this year. “I know what I want faster.”

She also told FN, “For my demographic, I’m catering to real women who work, are getting their first jobs or are in college. I want them to have shoes that make sense for them.”

Styles include the popular strappy pump, flats, booties and the classic heel, all retailing from $70 to $125.

“I want women to feel expensive, luxurious and beautiful, but not have to spend three years saving up for one pair of shoes,” she added.

The honor will be presented at the 30th annual Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York City on Tuesday. Sarah Jessica Parker was the most recent recipient of the award, which she accepted in 2014. Other previous Launch of the Year winners include Paul Andrew, Rachel Zoe and Tabitha Simmons.
