A New Zealand Designer Just Launched a Cool-Girl Bridal Collection—and Everything’s Under $3K

Ever since starting her namesake fashion label in 1987, New Zealand designer Karen Walker has become known for her funky '60s and '70s inspired prints, easy silhouettes and signature mix of elegance and eclectic designs. And that's exactly what you can expect to see in her newly launched bridal collection, Karen Walker Atelier. Fussy fabrics and traditional silhouettes be damned, this line was made for the casual, cool bride. Oh, and the best part? Everything is less than $3,000.

The gowns, frocks and suits all fit perfectly with Walker's "feminine, but not too sweet" aesthetic. A high frilled collar is balanced by a loosely draped tuxedo pant. An oversize bow at the back feels much less preppy or saccharine next to a sleek, simple ballgown and chic square neckline.

In all, there are 14 dresses (seven gowns and seven shorter options) and two three-piece suits, with prices ranging from $323 for a bias-cut crushed stain knee-length frock up to $2,742 for the ballgown above. There are also three different veils available, starting at $81.

For lucky brides in New Zealand (or those willing to travel to pick up the perfect wedding-day ensemble), Karen Walker's flagship store in Wellington will now include a bridal boutique with all the bells and whistles one could hope for in such a special shopping adventure, like fittings and full-look consultations (i.e., choosing a veil, shoes, jewelry, etc.). Even if you're not able to make it down under, Walker and her team will consult with you over email, phone and video call and work with local tailors to ensure you look perfect for your big day.

Like a lot of bridal lines, most of the collection isn't available to purchase on short notice and will take six to eight weeks to make and ship. That said, two Walker styles can be ordered at any time and shipped ASAP (the Paradise Dress and the Ceremony Dress). You know, just in case you've got a last-minute Vegas elopement in mind.

Of course, what is a wedding without a little extra bling? In addition to clothing, Walker launched the Atelier jewelry collection, which features 13 different ring designs to mix and match to your hearts content. While the majority of the engagement and wedding band options are also less than $3K (in fact, most cost less than $1K), the starburst cluster above goes a bit over, at $4,279.

Overall the collection is perfect for anyone looking for something a tad out there (oh, hello, poofy Sia-esque veil) without veering too far from the traditional path, and we're excited to see what Walker does next.
