Zazie Beetz Takes Summer’s Most Popular Makeup Hue for a Spin at the Venice Film Festival

Summer’s not over yet, and as such, the season’s most ubiquitous makeup shade has a few more weeks to strike a spark. The most recent adopter of 2019’s burgundy hue? Zazie Beetz, who donned a subtle swipe of the color at the Venice Film Festival, her application fresh enough to evidence the note’s potential for wear well into fall.

Earlier today, hairstylist Lacy Redway shared a snap of Beetz, who wore her hair piled atop her head with ringlets liberated in romantic, and organic, fashion. Along with dewy skin and a bloom of rose along her lips and cheeks, the actor’s look was defined by the brickish red edged along the outer corners of each eye to subtly graphic effect. Rather than edgy, the color teamed with the accompanying aesthetic cues to create a moment that skewed soft, a feel furthered by Beetz’s pearled and gilded earrings. Seeing red, it seems, is no longer just a keyed-up approach—it can be gentle, too.
