Zara Tindall Gives Birth to a Baby Girl

Prince Louis isn't the only British royal baby to arrive in 2018. The Queen's granddaughter, Zara Tindall gave birth to a baby girl at Stroud Maternity Unit in Gloucestershire. Buckingham Palace Palace has announced. The statement was first shared via social media this morning.

"Mrs. Michael Tindall was safely delivered of a baby girl on 18th June, at Stroud Maternity Unit."

Both mother and baby are reportedly in good health following the delivery, and the little girl weighed in at 9 lbs 3 oz. Zara's husband Mike Tindall was present for the birth.

The palace also shared that "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal, Captain Mark Phillips and Mike's parents, Mr Philip and Mrs. Linda Tindall, have been informed and are delighted with the news."

Zara and Mike have been married since 2011, and this is their second child. Their oldest daughter Mia is four-years-old. While the baby will not have a title as its father does not have a title, the baby is now 19th in line to the British throne, bumping Princess Margaret's children (and everyone else) down a spot.

The new royal baby marks the eighth great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth and the fourth grandchild for Princess Anne.

The baby's name will likely be announced in the next few days, or "in due course" as Buckingham Palace says. When Prince Louis was born in April, royals expert Victoria Arbiter shed some light on why royals delay sharing their babies names publicly.

"The reasoning is perhaps two fold. On one hand there's a desire to inform the families before a public declaration is made and any new parent appreciates having a little private time to get to know their new addition before the onslaught of announcements," she told Town & Country via email.

"Royals, however, also have to consider the great responsibility in naming a new member of the family and I expect they want to be a hundred percent certain of their choice before announcing the name and sealing the baby's place in history."
