Yuba City alive with color: Artists participate in Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture Mural Marathon

Apr. 22—Artists from all over the state visited the area over the weekend to participate in Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture's Mural Marathon and Art & Health Festival on Saturday that took over a portion of Plumas Street in Yuba City.

A total of five muralists designed 21-foot-by-21-foot murals on the Church Street side of the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts in Yuba City. The idea for the event was sparked by a similar undertaking in Reno, Nevada, when artists created murals over 24 hours, according to Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture Executive Director David Read.

Read said he wanted to make Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture's marathon 48-hours long beginning at 4:20 p.m. Friday until 4:20 p.m. Sunday. During that time frame, the quintet worked for much of the two-day span, even pulling an all-nighter on Saturday night as Bay Area resident Venazir Martinez said she and her assistant planned to do.
