From The Pioneer Woman

When Yes Day was first released on Netflix in early March, it quickly rose to the top of the streaming platform's most-watched list.

The lighthearted, family-friendly film follows two overwhelmed parents who feel like they always have to say "no" to their kids. Fed up with being the bad guys, Allison (Jennifer Garner) and Carlos (Edgar Ramirez) decide to give their three children a "Yes Day." It's exactly what it sounds like: 24 hours where the kids make the rules, and the parents have to say "yes" to everything. And we really do mean everything!

The mastermind behind planning the "Yes Day" is Carlos and Allison's teenage daughter, Katie (Jenna Ortega). In an attempt to prove her mom is, in fact, not cool, Katie helps her younger siblings come up with some out-of-the-box asks that she's sure Alison will say no to.

If you catch yourself throughout the movie thinking that Katie looks familiar, it's probably because you've seen the actress who plays her before. (Does Jane the Virgin ring a bell?!) Read on for everything you need to know about Yes Day star Jenna Ortega.

She has been acting for nearly her entire life.

Jenna landed some of her earliest roles on popular shows like CSI: NY and Days of Our Lives when she was just eight years old. She went on to play "young Jane" for five seasons in the satirical telenovela Jane the Virgin, and starred in the Disney series Stuck in the Middle from 2016 to 2018. As Jenna gets older, she has expanded her resume and taken on roles in more serious dramas like You and the upcoming film The Fallout.

"I do not want to be pigeonholed as an actor, and I want to do the most diverse roles that I possibly can and really switch up," she told Entertainment Tonight. "I want to be conscious of the roles that I'm taking on and make sure that they're challenging me in a new way."

Jenna was born and raised in California.

Jenna was born in Coachella Valley and still lives in Southern California with her family today. The 18-year-old has five siblings: three sisters and two brothers.

She is proud of her background.

Jenna is proud to be a Latina actress. "I am 75 percent Mexican and 25 percent Puerto Rican," she told PopSugar. "There are not as many Hispanic leading ladies out there as I would like, but I want to help change that in the future. I am blessed with the opportunities I have been given and I am extremely proud of where I come from. I would not have it any other way."

Jenna graduated high school while filming a movie.

Talk about multitasking! Jenna graduated high school in December 2019 while on set.

"The cast/crew surprised me with a cap and gown, diploma, speeches, music, etc. Very sweet and very lucky to be surrounded by people who care enough about me to celebrate the special moments in life, even in the midst of filming a movie," she wrote on Instagram.

And wrote her first book before turning 18.

Seriously, is there anything Jenna can't do? The teenager's first book, It's All Love: Reflections for Your Heart and Soul, was released earlier this year. Jenna's uplifting memoir is a collection of original quotes and personal stories about growing up Latina in Hollywood, working through depression, dealing with relationship struggles, and more.

"Been waiting for this day for a long time and feel incredibly lucky to share something so personal with everyone," she told fans when her book was released.
