YouTuber Travels To Whistler For "Ridiculous Early Season Storm Skiing"

Full disclosure to those frothing over the title of this article -- Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia, isn't open yet for lift-accessed skiing.

However, that doesn't mean that the more entrepreneurial among us aren't taking advantage of the terrain surrounding the resort with a little help from their touring equipment.

Earlier this week, skier and content creator James Pavelick (of Rise & Alpine) journeyed to a zone adjacent to Whistler Blackcomb -- Brandywine Mountain -- in search of early-season turns.

Conditions report: bomber. The powder Pavelick discovered bodes well for Whistler Blackcomb's upcoming opening day next week on November 23rd.

Although the resort's webcams tell a slightly different story -- the base areas at Whistler and Blackcomb are essentially bare. Still, coverage above the mid-mountain at Whistler and Blackcomb looks solid, given the time of year.

That's the operative phrase: "time of year." After last winter's persistent snowfall left many North Americans buried, it's easy to forget that November is often a crapshoot conditions-wise.

Here's an anecdote to hammer the point home. I spent four years skiing Whistler Blackcomb while attending university in Squamish, British Columbia, and those first, pre-Thanksgiving (that's the American version, mind you) turns frequently didn't involve top-to-bottom.

That wasn't a deterrent, though. We happily loaded the Creekside or Whistler Village Gondola and got our fix up high before downloading and hustling back to Squamish for our university classes.

Turns are turns, folks. Let's get this season started.
