YouTuber Offers Cash If Riders Can Change A Mountain Bike Tire

For riders, the first bit of maintenance they learn is changing a tire. Though it is easy in terms of maintenance it can still be hard under pressure.

Watch as YouTuber Heather Muvine facilitated a tire change race with some serious stakes: cold hard cash.

In this video, Heather pitted two Amateurs and then two professional mechanics against each other to change a set of tires quickest as a promotion for her sponsor Kenda Tires. While the amateurs take 45 minutes to change and seat a set of tubeless tires, the pros were able to do it in well under 10.

The shop rats going all out to change a tire is the most hilarious part of the video, but when you learn what most bike shops pay mechanics it makes a bit more sense that they would go that hard!

In a tight head-to-head duel, Grant prevailed despite committing the cardinal sin of changing a tire, seating it backward. Especially when mounting it with an insert, a mistake like that can cause even the best of us to decide backward was always how these tires worked.

Fun little competitions like this are a great way to hone your skills in maintenance. For instance, I still haven't let my buddy Seth live down that my Cushcore installation skills were proven superior in a head-to-head race in the Squamish parking lot in September 2021.
