Last month, on the Atelier Versace runway in Paris, Pat McGrath Labs teased us that they were previewing a new product (which is totally a McGrath move). But which would it be? As we hoped, it’s the crazy powerful bejeweled lip look.
At a Wednesday morning event with a group of beauty editors, McGrath said of the new Lust 004, “You can just be as crazy creative as you want to be, ombré as much as you want to be, glitter down as much as you want to be, and basically, as I said, inspired by everything I’ve ever done since.”
This is a super-unorthodox lip kit, and when describing the feel of the metallic gold pigment, McGrath exhaled deeply. “It’s more of an expression, a feeling.”
For the first time ever, fans will be able to purchase a single lipstick ($25) from the collection. They can also choose from three five-piece sets ($60) or buy the entire 11-piece collection ($150). Each set contains a vinyl gloss, a jar of glitter, the striking gold powder, and two complementary lipsticks.
The looks created with this set can be as edgy or low-key as you want. “You can take the glitter and mix it with the gloss in a simple way and it will adhere to the lipstick,” McGrath explains. “And you can wear it on its own.”
This set is for people who like to experiment with mixing color and texture, McGrath explained. “It’s showing people that’s how we play with makeup. You very rarely take one lipstick and just go. A lot of times you mix it according to lighting. I’m giving people the secrets to the work I’ve done backstage.”
