A new survey in the United Kingdom has found that travelers are spending more time sorting their playlists and entertainment for a trip than packing clothes.

In preparation for a weeklong break, the average person spends 4 hours and 16 minutes “digitally packing,” sorting out music playlists, downloading TV shows and books — compared to 2 hours and 30 minutes packing a physical suitcase, according to the survey commissioned by Audible (which just might have a vested interest in encouraging this behavior).

More than 2 in 5 people actively start organizing the digital entertainment they will be taking on their weeklong holiday before even thinking about packing their bags.

“Our packing habits for holidays now include ensuring we’re set up to relax with our favorite entertainment,” said Tracey Markham, country manager at Audible.

“Perhaps because it only takes a few minutes to download digital entertainment, a growing number of Brits choose to create their perfect holiday multimedia list even before packing clothes.”

This tends to fit in with the recent study that revealed a whopping 64 percent of us would rather take our smartphone on holidays than a loved one. It sounds awful, but when you look at exactly what we are are doing on our phones while traveling, it begins to make sense.

According to data from the Hotels.com Mobile Travel Tracker survey, it appears that we are using our phone to search for restaurants and food markets (57 percent), followed by using maps and directions apps to get around (54 percent).
