The Young Surfer Killed By Shark in South Australia Has Been Identified

The 15-year-old surfer tragically killed by a shark attack in South Australia yesterday has been identified as Khai Cowley.

According to reports, he was an "up-and-coming board rider, a junior pro surfer."

The attack occurred while Thai was on a surf trip with his father, who witnessed the attack.

7News captioned the post above:

"The boy killed by a shark off a remote South Australian beach was one of Australia's best junior surfers.

"15-year-old Khai Cowley died after being attacked in front of his horrified father."

According to reports, the body was recovered from the water after the attack, near Ethel Beach in the Innes National Park on the Yorke Peninsula.

Surfing organization Surfing South Australia issued a statement honoring Thai:

"We are devastated to learn that one of our young, talented, and dearly loved members of our surfing community was the surfer involved in the attack at Ethal Beach, and are absolutely shattered to hear that the incident was fatal. Our utmost deepest sympathies are with the family."

Lauryn Barley, Khai's aunt, set up a GoFundMe to help his family.

On the page, she wrote:

"Hi my name is Lauryn, Aunty to our beloved Khai, who was suddenly taken from us by a white pointer while surfing at Ethel Wreck off the coast of Yorke Penisula. I’m here to try help raise funds for my sister, Kate and brother, Tim to cover the cost of the funeral service. Any donations will be most appreciated"

According to 7News, this was the fifth shark attack and the third fatal one.

Rest in peace, Khai.
