You'll Never Guess Which Oil Chloë Grace Moretz Uses for Clear Skin

We never thought of this solution!

In a new interview with Allure magazine, Chloë Grace Moretz opens up about struggling with cystic acne and shares her somewhat unorthodox secret to clear, glowing skin.

You might be surprised, but the 19-year-old star says that growing up, she suffered from severe cystic acne. "I tried changing my diet and my beauty products before going on Accutane," she said. "[Having acne problems] was a long, hard, emotional process." (As someone who's had acne since I was 13, I can definitely attest to this. Acne is the literal worst.)

Now, Moretz says she washes her face with olive oil every day to maintain flawless skin. "I swear my skin is so much clearer because of it," she said.

Moretz is on to something: Oil cleansing has surged in popularity over the past year, and there's evidence it works. "Cleansing oils are based on the premise that like dissolves like," dermatologist Sejal Sha told BuzzFeed. Basically, the idea behind it is that the oil you use on your face will dissolve the oils that clog your pores, thus leading to clearer skin. (If the idea of rubbing olive oil on your face freaks you out, try one of these cleansing balms instead.)

It might take some trial and error to find the right oil for your face — you know your skin best, after all — but coconut oil tends to be a popular option and so does olive oil. And remember: A little goes a long way with oil cleansing so stick to a few drops
