What Is Lovecore, and Why Is It So Popular Right Now?

Lovecore is soft and feminine and embraces anything representing love—from the literal to the more symbolic. This can mean colors like pink, the shape of a heart, or even soft, sumptuous fabrics like lace, silk, or velvet. If it wouldn't look out of place on a Valentine's Day card, it has a place in lovecore. In other words, it's February 14 every day.

This trend combines many of the other reigning popular aesthetics into one cohesive—and empowering—style. Barbiecore comes with an all-pink look and is inspired by the movie that reminded women you can both be powerful and embrace the feminine. Women have also leaned into harnessing their "main character energy" through rom-com core and want to express their flirty side through the coquette aesthetic, all while being taken just as seriously as a person. A pretty aesthetic with a powerful message? We're here for it!

How Can You Try This Trend Without Going Overboard?

Lovecore is fun, but if you’re not careful, it can quickly go from cute and slightly kitschy to sickeningly sweet. To keep things sophisticated, balance is the name of the game. A touch of lace can go a long way, so instead of a full lace curtain, try a crisp, cool linen with a lacy border. For every over-the-top soft and floaty item, try picking something with a more masculine edge. Pair silky, soft fabrics with ones that have a little more texture—think tweed or even faux leather. Generally, items with softer edges like hearts feel feminine, so try a square table or a couch with sleeker lines to even things out.

The predominant color for lovecore is clearly pink. But the idea of a pink-themed room might make you a little nervous—will it look too juvenile? Since pink encompasses a vast range of colors, from the softest baby blush to deep, saturated raspberry, there are opportunities to create rooms with very different aesthetics.

However, a room filled with just one color of pink can look very flat. If you want to add a multidimensional feel but still go all-in on pink, utilizing multiple hues that have the same undertone can pull depth and interest. Try using at least three shades to create a lushly layered effect. Bringing in some ombre fabric that combines the colors in the form of a throw blanket or curtains is a fabulous way to tie everything together.

Another classic color combination is pink and gray, which gives off a vintage Hollywood Regency vibe. Or, if you’d like to go bold, pink with black can give you a crisp, high-contrast look. If you’re still not sold on pink paint, introduce it as an accent with furnishings and accessories. Or maybe think a bit outside the box and try red!

To really play up the love theme, you can try introducing some tasteful hearts. Used in a small-scale pattern, they can almost look like dots from a distance, so they won’t seem too overwhelming. On the other hand, you can also try a large format—think a single hot pink heart on a pillow or a huge heart on an oversized canvas (this would be a great, high-impact DIY project) for a Pop Art feel.

However you choose to celebrate your love with your decor, this is one trend that’s sure to add a pop of happiness to your life, delight those who visit your home, and perhaps remind everyone that love is all around us—if we choose to look for it.
