New Yorker astounds viewers with tour of a ‘claustrophobic’ studio apartment: ‘You couldn’t pay me to live there’
A video tour of a New York City apartment for rent has TikTokers losing their minds.
To many viewers, the studio apartment — currently listing for $2,595 a month — seems unlivable.
The rental is located on East 35th Street, in midtown Manhattan, and features just one oddly shaped room. There’s a full kitchen, a closet, a bathroom and a living space that’s less than 7 feet wide.

TikTokers are getting a look at the place thanks to @rentnewyork. The TikToker runs a popular page featuring apartment tours that range from good to bad to totally confounding.
But this recent tour caused a particularly big uproar — the posted clip was has been viewed over 3 million times!
“Is this New York City’s smallest studio?” the TikToker asks at the start of the clip.
The tour comes amid a slew of New York City apartment videos that have gone viral.
As rent prices in Manhattan continue to soar, users have taken to TikTok with complaints about their living situations. In one clip, a New Yorker claimed she was leaving the city after learning her rent was going up by over $700.
Other TikTokers have used the app to complain about strange or ridiculously small apartments. For example, one user’s tour of a “nauseating” apartment in Washington Heights had commenters asking how someone could even get their furniture inside.

In @rentnewyork’s video, the TikToker gives viewers a look at all the features.
The studio has an oven, stove, dishwasher and full refrigerator, although storage space is clearly limited. The bathroom is cramped, but has mirrors and a glass-doored shower that look fairly modern.
Finally, @rentnewyork shows the view from the apartment’s windows. The unit is on the first floor and overlooks a small alleyway.
“It’s not too bad out here,” the TikToker says.
Commenters had mostly negative reactions to the tour. Many questioned how a person could live there — especially for that price.
“I need to see it furnished,” one user wrote. “Because no way.”
“I can’t imagine why in the world people accept this? I’m genuinely asking, is living in New York worth this?” another added.
“You couldn’t pay me to live there,” another wrote.
