I’ll never forget seeing The Hunger Games in theaters. I was fifteen—perhaps a bit too old to line up at a midnight premiere—and shaking in my seat with excitement. (It was a moment, OK?) It’s been nearly a decade since Jennifer Lawrence first brandished her bow and arrow, and The Hunger Games films still hold up as a thrilling adventure. Based on Suzzane Collins’s best-selling book series, The Hunger Games takes place in Panem, a dystopian continent that’s been divided into 12 districts. Each year, one boy and one girl are selected to fight in a televised battle, where they must fight to the death. The game is meant to stop when one person wins—but that changes when Katniss Everdeen is thrown in the ring.

On November 17, a Hunger Games prequel film—titled The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes—will premiere in theaters. It takes place 64 years before the original novel and follows a young President Snow’s tumultuous rise to power. While we wait for the film's debut, we highly recommend you take this opportunity to catch up on the franchise. Whether you’re hoping to relive the excitement, or are diving in for the first time, here’s how to watch The Hunger Games in chronological order.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (In theaters November 17)

OK, technically you can’t start from the beginning until November. Until then, check out the trailer for a glimpse at the grizzly-looking origin story. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, who is assigned to be a mentor to District 12's Lucy Gray Baird in the 10th annual Hunger Games. When they fall in love, Snow’s morality is tested as he struggles to help Lucy while working for The Capitol.
