Yelp names California pizzeria best ‘Chicago-style’ pizza. Yes, you read that right.

CHICAGO — The best “Chicago-style” pizza, ironically, is not in Chicago.

In fact, Chicago didn’t even make the top five on Yelp’s list of “Top 25 spots for Chicago-style pizza.” But two California restaurants did.

According to Yelp, a pizzeria in Monterey, California was named the best “Chicago-style” pizza in the country. The restaurant is called Heirloom Pizza Co.

Another restaurant, called Tony’s Little Italy Pizza Company in Placentia, California, came in fifth.

Yelp said the rankings were based on the volume and ratings of the reviews, mentioning “Chicago-style” and “deep dish” pizza.

Chicago took three spots on Yelp’s list of 25 tops spots, those are: Michael’s Original Pizzeria and Tavern in Buena Park came in at 10th place, Bacino’s of Lincoln Park came in at 19th and Pequod’s took the 20th spot.

In February, Yelp names Pequod’s the best pizza place in the United States. PERIOD.
