Yelp highlights Portland arcade bar as best in the nation
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Portland business has claimed the No. 1 spot as the best arcade bar in the country.
Yelp revealed a list of the top arcade bars throughout the U.S. — and Canada — after gathering data on the total volume of reviews and the star ratings for different businesses.

“Delight in beer selections and game-themed cocktails while taking turns on retro arcade cabinets and pinball machines,” Yelp said in the Apr. 23 blog. “Some even have tasty food and retro consoles to play. For the 21+ (18+ in Canada) gamers who like to pair their competition with adult beverages, we have gathered the top spots to get your grown game on.”
Portland’s Ground Kontrol was named first out of the top 25 spots. Located at 115 NW 5th Ave., the arcade bar has been open since 1999 and has undergone several expansions.
The business holds over 150 video games spanning from the 1970s, and often hosts tournaments. It also offers food and beverages, with items like hot dogs, nachos and fruity cocktails on the menu.

Ground Kontrol only accepts customers over the age of 21 after 5 p.m. from Monday to Sunday.
Yelp’s other top arcade bars were EightyTwo in Los Angeles, Boxcar Bar + Arcade in Raleigh, N.C., and Logan Arcade in Chicago.
