Yellowstone officially returned for season 5 and folks were thrilled to catch up with the Dutton family. But one of the Paramount Network show's prequels isn't getting the same excitement from fans — and it's all because of where it will be streaming online.

During the Yellowstone season 5 premiere, fans were ecstatic to learn that 1923 (a.k.a. the latest TV show to join the hit franchise) would be premiering on December 18. To accompany the big news, a sneak peek trailer also aired featuring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara, aunt and uncle to Kevin Costner's character John.

"It’s the dawn of a new era," the clip was captioned on Instagram. "@1923Official arrives December 18, exclusively on @ParamountPlus."

While everyone agreed the announcement for 1923 was pretty major, one important detail stood out amongst viewers on social media.

"Puts 1923 on Paramount+ but not Yellowstone season 5 ," one fan reacted in the Instagram comments section. "Too bad we can’t watch the show without having to pay more for Paramount Network," another lamented. "I’m done chasing this show from app to app that’s ridiculous and a good way to lose viewers," a different person said.

As folks probably know, Yellowstone and its current prequel 1883 are currently not on the same sites. Unlike the show that kicked it all off, which streams episodes on Peacock, the new spinoff will instead live with 1883 on Paramount+. For those wondering why this is, it's due to Yellowstone making a deal with NBC in 2020 (the year before Paramount+ debuted) to allow the site to stream the original series on its platform.

"Yellowstone is not available on Paramount+ due to streaming rights," reads a statement from Paramount+ on its official site. "But don’t worry — we’ve got super exciting Yellowstone-related series streaming now, plus there’s more on the way from the universe of Yellowstone executive producer, Taylor Sheridan. Even better, they're all exclusively on Paramount+!"

As far as what to do at the moment, you'll need to have both sites to enjoy the world of the Dutton family. In terms of what fans can expect from 1923, an official press release laid out the details. The latest Yellowstone installment will follow the Duttons in the early part of the 20th century, "when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west and the Duttons who call it home."

Sounds intriguing, and we truly can't wait to see where this will take us next.
