Yellowstone fans may feel in limbo right now without new episodes but folks can rest assured that creator Taylor Sheridan is making major moves behind the scenes. After the Yellowstone season 5 premiere date was announced and a new installment of 1883 was revealed, news broke about the upcoming prequel 1932 undergoing a big change with a new title.

On June 20, Deadline reported that the continuation of the Dutton family’s origin story has officially been renamed from 1932 to 1923. According to multiple outlets, the change was made to focus on the new titular year, which will have storylines about the end of World War I and the start of Prohibition era.

As fans may know, the new prequel show was first unveiled back in February shortly before the original 1883 miniseries concluded. Since then, the streamer has only shared sparse but important details, including that the show will premiere this December. What’s more, the 1923 cast will feature Star Wars actor Harrison Ford and The Queen star Helen Mirren, although additional information about their roles haven’t been disclosed.

The original log line teased that 1932 would follow a new generation of the Dutton family during the early 20th century when there were “pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression.” Now, the 1923 log line sounds a little more niche and it will include several more characters.

A synopsis via Deadline reads: “1923 focuses on the Dutton family’s next two generations as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all battled beneath the cloud of Montana’s great depression, which preceded the nation by almost a decade.”

Previously, Taylor explained why he decided to show fans more of the past. "With Yellowstone, I had built out this back story of where the Dutton family came from and with 1932, I chose that moment in time to peek back," he said in a February YouTube video. "You're seeing the children we've met in 1883 now attempting to raise another generation of Dutton at the time of the wild west becoming a playground for the elite from the east."

So, does this mean that Elsa (Isabel May)’s younger brother John (Audie Rick) will star in 1923? It’s too soon to tell but we wouldn’t rule it out.
