YB Loves: A Truly Sensitive Skin Cream

This year, out of nowhere, my sensitive skin got a whole lot more reactionary as I started experiencing allergic reactions with no rhyme or reason. I’m taking eyes swollen shut, rashes, hives, and trouble breathing kind of reactions. Multiple specialist and tests later, I now know I’m allergic to stone fruit (sayonara to my beloved peaches and cherries) and a few random nuts (which are frustratingly lurking in everything from smoothies to salads to skin cream). The first question every doctor asked: “Have you tried any new lotions lately?” Oh, if only they knew.

I’ve been pretty grumpy having to pass on potentially hazardous chocolates and baked goods, but as a beauty editor, I’m even more frustrated that I now have to scan lengthy, unpronounceable ingredient lists for hidden triggers in the new products I’m testing every single day. And while I thought going natural might be the answer, I quickly realized it’s hard to come across anything without almond oil these days.

The recent launch of La Solution 10 de Chanel ($80) was serendipitous and such a blessing. With my sensitive skin made extra cranky, this face moisturizer is a match made in heaven for my sensitive skin. It contains just 10 ingredients printed clearly on the back: Water, vegetal squaline, soft powder, glycerin, silver needle tea extract, shea butter extract, emollient, emulsifier, humectant, preservative. (Side note: If you’ve never tried the delicious white tea known as silver needle tea, it’s delicious and perfect for these cozy almost-winter days.) This unique, efficient combo of ingredients create a powerful blend that makes my skin soft, smooth, protected from free-radicals, and best of all, reaction-free. Since using it regularly over the past few months, I’ve noticed a huge difference in my complexion and a vast improvement in my anxiety during beauty prep. A cream I love and can use without worry? You just can’t put a price on that.
