Y/Project Created $315 Denim Panties

If you’re into the “weird denim” trend (or, like me, just profoundly perplexed by it), you know by now that there’s a lot of options to choose from. From triple waistband jeans (!!!) that are basically the equivalent of denim inception to upside-down shorts only a Demogorgon could love, there’s no shortage of bizarre jeans on the market. And now, thanks to Y/Project, we can add literal underwear to the list of weird denim trends of our time.

However, it’s not just the confusing concept that has the internet talking, but the price tag. Y/Project’s Navy Denim Panties, available via Ssense, can be purchased for a cool $315. I don’t know about you, but I have never bought underwear for anything close to that price, let alone undies that are jeans. Let me reiterate: They’re jeans! They even have pockets! I just have so many questions here.

To be fair, this should be a little expected at this point, especially when you take a look at some of the other jean products available on Ssense’s website, like this mid-rise skirt comprised entirely of denim pants for $2,870, or this denim patchwork jacket, available for $3,950. And Y/Project has been also been invested in the weird jean trend for a while, having created detachable jeans in 2017 (Broad City’s Ilana would approve of this apocalypse-ready wardrobe item).

Nevertheless, once people on social media caught wind of the $315 denim panties (or “janties” as they have been dubbed), the reactions started pouring in. “To what occasion can you actually wear denim panties???” one person wondered (a fair question), while another pointed out a likely side-effect of wearing denim down there: “I’ll tell you how I feel. Utterly and thoroughly chafed.”

Despite the way Twitter feels about ‘em, the denim panties are already runway-approved, as they were showcased at Y/Project's Spring-Summer 2019 show during Paris Fashion Week.

It seems as though weird denim is here to stay, and we'll definitely be keeping our eyes open to see if the “janties” make an appearance during festival season. Seems likely, tbqh.
